Freezing Strawberries

Eating fresh Strawberries is one of my favorite things about having a garden. They rank up there with homegrown tomatoes. We have quite a large patch, so we get more than we can eat up, so preserving them is a must. The easiest way by far is to freeze them.
  1. Pick the Strawberries
  2. Wash the Strawberries
  3. Core the Strawberries if you want, but that is not needed as the tops are indeed edible
  4. Spread them in a single layer on a cookie sheet with some tin foil under the strawberries
  5. Place them in the freezer for 12-24 hours, or until they are frozen solid
  6. Take the strawberries from the freezer, and pour them into a ziplock freezer bag, and press air out and seal.
  7. Place Strawberries back in the freezer and use for smoothies, pies, salads, and many other things.
We also like to make some strawberry jam which is also easy to make, but takes a little bit more time. So this is the back up plan if I am short on time. This can be used for other berrys. Freezing them seperatly on a tray will make it easier to use them as they will not be all stuck together.

They will last up to 6 months in a deep freezer, but will start getting freezer burn after that. Enjoy!
