After you have your seeds planted your seeds and they have popped up and have gotten some true leaves, it is time to thin out the extra seedlings so that there is only one per pot. If you leave them very long too close together, then the seedlings will be weakened. When you watch and take care of these little seedlings, the last thing you want to do is harm them, but pulling some of them out is better for them in the long run.
The best way to take out the extra ones, is to use a pair of scissors and cut the plant down by the root. Then you will not disturb the roots of the plant you are keeping.
How do you choose which to keep and which to snip? You want to choose the healthiest looking seedling. It is not necessarily the tallest seedling, but the one who has the thickest stem, most straight up, and leaves that look the best without any blemishes.
Now, after you have your scissors, and choose which one to snip, carefully trim out the extra seedlings so that each pot has only one seedling.
